MU Student News is open to every MU student — no experience required. Everyone on the current staff started with a first story.
Roles in the newsroom
- Staff writer — report and write stories for any section
- Photographer — shoot events, portraits and features
- Copy editor — sharpen grammar, clarity and style
- Social media — bring our reporting to the feeds students actually read
- Design and illustration — graphics, layouts and editorial art
What we expect
Roughly one story, shoot or shift every two weeks, attendance at a short weekly planning meeting, and care with deadlines. Editors pair every new member with an experienced one for their first assignments.
What you will learn
Interviewing people you have never met, verifying claims, writing for readers instead of teachers, working to real deadlines, and taking public responsibility for your work. Alumni of student newsrooms carry those skills everywhere.
