A 16-year-old girl is facing assault and disorderly conduct charges after authorities say she ran onto the field during a middle school football game in Winchester, Tennessee, and tackled a player who had been involved in a scuffle.

Investigators said she struck the player a second time before coaches were able to step in and separate them.

The incident happened during a matchup between South Middle School and Cornersville Middle School. According to officials, the disturbance began after some kind of dispute broke out on the field, drawing attention from players, coaches and spectators.

Before the situation could be fully contained, the teen made her way past the sideline and onto the playing field, where she tackled the player involved in the earlier scuffle. Investigators noted that she hit the player a second time before adults on the scene were able to pull her away and restore order.

Game Called Early Amid the Disruption

The disruption was significant enough that officials decided to end the game early rather than risk further incidents. At the time play was stopped, South Middle School was leading 35 to 0. Coaches and school staff worked to clear the field and ensure the safety of the players and attendees before sending everyone home.

Local authorities were notified and launched an investigation into what led up to the confrontation.

As a result of that investigation, the teen was formally charged with assault and disorderly conduct.

Officials have not released additional details about her identity, given her age, or about the exact nature of the original dispute that sparked the confrontation.

School District Responds With New Restrictions

Following the incident, Franklin County Schools issued a lifetime trespass ban against the teen, barring her from ever stepping onto school property again. In addition, she was specifically prohibited from attending any Cornersville Middle School athletic events for a full year.

District officials say they are now reviewing security procedures at middle school sporting events in light of what happened.

Potential changes could include additional staff presence, tighter sideline restrictions, or new protocols for handling disputes that break out during games. No final decisions have been announced yet, but school leaders say the goal is to prevent similar incidents from happening at future games.

The case remains under review as the legal process moves forward for the teen involved.
